The Yamagata University, Japan, is accepting applications for undergraduate and graduate students to participate in the “Short-Term Exchange Programs at Yamagata University (STEP-YU) 2027″, scheduled to take place 1 Semester or 1 Academic year in Japan, start in April 2027.
👨🏻🎓Eligibility
- Must be an undergraduate student in their second year or above, or a graduate student.
- Must maintain Chiang Mai University student status throughout the exchange program, and not be awaiting graduation or scheduled to graduate during participation.
- Must have a cumulative grade point average (CGPA) of at least 2.50
- Must meet the language proficiency test score requirements as specified for each program category
General (Ippan) Exchange Program: JLPT N2
Yamagata University Japan Studies Program (JSP): JLPT N3 or CEFR B2 / IELTS 5.5
- Must return to continue studying at Chiang Mai University upon completion of the program.

📝Required Application Documents

- Application Form
- Academic Transcript
- Copy of Passport
- Language Proficiency Certificates
- Copy of Japanese Language Proficiency Test (JLPT) certificate or other Japanese test results (if taken).
- Certificate of English Language Test (for JSP applicants without N3 level).
- Plan of Study or Research
- Two Letters of Recommendation (issued by two different individuals)
- Health Examination Report
- Photo Document
- Application for Certificate of Eligibility (CoE)
- Proof of Financial Support (e.g., scholarship certificate or bank balance statement of the financial supporter)
- Application Form for Residence Approval

🗓️ Duration: April 1, 2027 – September 30, 2027 (one semester) or March 31, 2028 (one year)
➤ Program 1: General (Ippan) Exchange Program: General exchange program for undergraduate and graduate students, focusing on Japanese language skill development and specialized coursework taught in Japanese.
➤ Program 2: Yamagata University Japan Studies Program (JSP): Japanese studies program for undergraduate students, focusing on Japanese culture and society through lectures taught in English, alongside Japanese language study.
