Call for Applications: 2025 Fulbright Junior Research Scholarship Program (JRS)

The Thailand – U.S. Educational Foundation (Fulbright Thailand), in cooperation with the National Research
Council of Thailand (NRCT), is pleased to announce the Fulbright Junior Research Scholarship
Program (JRS) for Thai doctoral students to gain research experience in the United States as part of their
doctoral dissertation requirements. The grant period must not start before September 1, 2025, and no later
than mid-February 2026.
The program offers up to five (5) grants under two categories; two (2) for general Thai doctoral students to
conduct research for six (6) months and three (3) for Thai doctoral students under the Royal Golden Jubilee
(RGJ) or the Research and Researchers for Industries (RRI) Programs to conduct research six (6) to
twelve (12) months.
For the general doctoral student grants, the awards are sponsored by Fulbright Thailand, including 1)
round-trip international air tickets, 2) monthly stipends, 3) in-transit allowance, and 4) in-kind benefits such as
ASPE health insurance, J-1 visa fee exemption, and other enrichment activities in Thailand and the U.S.
For the RGJ and RRI doctoral student grants, the awards are sponsored by the Fulbright – NRCT
partnership. Funding support will be mainly provided by the National Research Council of Thailand (NRCT) not
exceeding twelve (12) months, with additional funds from Fulbright Thailand for a period not exceeding six (6)
months, and the in-kind benefits such as ASPE health insurance, J-1 visa fee exemption, and other enrichment
activities in Thailand and the U.S.
Grantees under the JRS Program must start the grant under the DS-2019 issued by the Institute of
International Education (IIE).

ELIGIBILITY:
At the time of application, an applicant must:
1) Be physically present in Thailand at the time of the interview and orientation.
2) Be a Thai citizen in good health (individuals holding U.S. immigrant visas or permanent U.S. resident
cards/green cards, or dual citizenships (Thai and U.S.) are not eligible to apply).
3) Be a doctoral student in a Thai university or a doctoral student under the RGJ or RRI
Programs.
4) Have completed your coursework and passed the qualifying exam.
5) Demonstrate strong academic performance at the graduate level.
6) Have an appropriate background to undertake the proposal you have outlined.
7) Have the concurrence of the university doctoral program in which you enrolled.
8) Have one of the following valid English official score reports:
a. iBT TOEFL score of 71;
b. ITP TOEFL score of 525;
c. CU-TEP test score of 75.
9) Obtain an official letter of invitation from a U.S. host institution/advisor who will
supervise the research.
10) Be able to take leave from the home institution or professional organization.
11) Preferably not have had extensive experience in the United States during the previous five (5) years and
not obtained a U.S. J-1 Visa in the past 2 years (24 months at the time of submission deadline).
12) Be able to fully participate in every activity organized by Fulbright Thailand, including the Preliminary
Orientation and Pre-departure Orientation Program, held in January and June, respectively.

applying.

 

APPLICATION:
Applicants must complete and submit an online application within a deadline with the following required
documents in the English language and PDF format:
1. Research proposal in any field, except the clinical practices (not exceeding 5 pages typed, font no. 10-
12 Ariel or Tahoma, preferably)
2. Biographic essay (not exceeding 2 pages typed, font no. 10-12 Ariel or Tahoma, preferably)
3. Resume/CV
4. Copy of a valid passport or national identification card
5. Copy of official transcripts: Bachelor’s, Master’s, and Doctoral.
6. Official letter of invitation from the host institution with a specific period of research*
7. 3 letters of recommendation (submitted online by recommenders once applicants fill in recommenders’
names and contact information on the online application)
8. Copy of valid and official English proficiency test score report (TOEFL iBT, ITP, or CU-TEP)
