Scholarship Opportunity | HYI – NUS joint Doctoral Scholarship 2027 – 2028

The Harvard-Yenching Institute and the National University of Singapore have established “Harvard-Yenching Institute (HYI)-NUS Joint Scholarship Programme” to provide the funding for young faculty members to pursue a Ph.D. at the National University of Singapore (NUS), with one year of dissertation research at Harvard University.

***Up to 2 candidates from Chiangmai University can be nominated.***

✨Benefit

Each candidate will be funded for a maximum of 4 years (48 months) of full-time study.

National University of Singapore (NUS) will cover 38 months

🌸 Tuition fees and a stipend

The Harvard-Yenching Institute (HYI) will cover the remaining 10 months of conducting dissertation research at Harvard University.

🌸 Economy fare roundtrip transportation to Cambridge, a monthly stipend, and medical insurance

👨🏻‍🎓Eligibility

• Early-career faculty member in a Humanities or Social Sciences discipline with an emphasis on culture

• Conduct research focusing on one of the following fields

• Hold a teaching position or possess teaching experience at Chiangmai University and are assured of reemployment after graduation from the NUS.

• Officially nominated and endorsed by Chiangmai University

• Propose a research topic related to East Asian or Southeast Asian studies

📝 Required Documents

• Completed Application Form

• Institutional Approval Form (Signed by the University President)

• Letter of Support from the applicant’s home university

• 2 Referee Reports in English (one must be from the applicant’s academic advisor or the referee most familiar with the applicant’s work)

• Statement of Purpose / Research Proposal (1-2 pages)

• Writing Sample (10-15 pages, double-spaced)

• Any additional documents required by the NUS online application system
