What the Program Is About
The Fulbright USAS program offers faculty, government officials, NGO and private-sector professionals from ASEAN countries – including Thailand – the opportunity to spend 3–4 months in the United States to conduct scholarly or professional research on issues related to the U.S.–ASEAN relationship and ASEAN regional priorities.
Projects are expected to address themes such as regional economic integration, maritime cooperation, women’s opportunities, green growth, and trans‐national challenges like human trafficking, countering violent extremism, wildlife trafficking, or sustainable fishing.
Applicants are encouraged to locate a suitable U.S. host institution in advance and indicate how their work will have significance for Thailand and the broader ASEAN region.
Key Benefits & What the Applicant Will Be Supported With
Successful grantees will receive:
- A monthly stipend during their 3–4 month stay in the U.S.
- A round‐trip international airfare between Thailand and the U.S.
- A professional allowance and a settling-in allowance to support the start of their stay.
- If applicable, laboratory and research fees at the host institution.
Please note: dependent (family) expenses are not covered.
Eligibility at a Glance
- Must be a Thai citizen in good health and under age 58 at the application deadline.
- Must hold a Master’s degree or higher in any field.
- Must not have held a Fulbright grant within the past five years.
- Must not have received a U.S. J-1 visa in the past two years.
