SUMMARY:Call for Applications: 2025 Fulbright Junior Research Scholarship Program (JRS)
DESCRIPTION:The Thailand – U.S. Educational Foundation (Fulbright Thailand)\, in cooperation with the National Research\nCouncil of Thailand (NRCT)\, is pleased to announce the Fulbright Junior Research Scholarship\nProgram (JRS) for Thai doctoral students to gain research experience in the United States as part of their\ndoctoral dissertation requirements. The grant period must not start before September 1\, 2025\, and no later\nthan mid-February 2026.\nThe program offers up to five (5) grants under two categories; two (2) for general Thai doctoral students to\nconduct research for six (6) months and three (3) for Thai doctoral students under the Royal Golden Jubilee\n(RGJ) or the Research and Researchers for Industries (RRI) Programs to conduct research six (6) to\ntwelve (12) months.\nFor the general doctoral student grants\, the awards are sponsored by Fulbright Thailand\, including 1)\nround-trip international air tickets\, 2) monthly stipends\, 3) in-transit allowance\, and 4) in-kind benefits such as\nASPE health insurance\, J-1 visa fee exemption\, and other enrichment activities in Thailand and the U.S.\nFor the RGJ and RRI doctoral student grants\, the awards are sponsored by the Fulbright – NRCT\npartnership. Funding support will be mainly provided by the National Research Council of Thailand (NRCT) not\nexceeding twelve (12) months\, with additional funds from Fulbright Thailand for a period not exceeding six (6)\nmonths\, and the in-kind benefits such as ASPE health insurance\, J-1 visa fee exemption\, and other enrichment\nactivities in Thailand and the U.S.\nGrantees under the JRS Program must start the grant under the DS-2019 issued by the Institute of\nInternational Education (IIE). \nELIGIBILITY:\nAt the time of application\, an applicant must:\n1) Be physically present in Thailand at the time of the interview and orientation.\n2) Be a Thai citizen in good health (individuals holding U.S. immigrant visas or permanent U.S. resident\ncards/green cards\, or dual citizenships (Thai and U.S.) are not eligible to apply).\n3) Be a doctoral student in a Thai university or a doctoral student under the RGJ or RRI\nPrograms.\n4) Have completed your coursework and passed the qualifying exam.\n5) Demonstrate strong academic performance at the graduate level.\n6) Have an appropriate background to undertake the proposal you have outlined.\n7) Have the concurrence of the university doctoral program in which you enrolled.\n8) Have one of the following valid English official score reports:\na. iBT TOEFL score of 71;\nb. ITP TOEFL score of 525;\nc. CU-TEP test score of 75.\n9) Obtain an official letter of invitation from a U.S. host institution/advisor who will\nsupervise the research.\n10) Be able to take leave from the home institution or professional organization.\n11) Preferably not have had extensive experience in the United States during the previous five (5) years and\nnot obtained a U.S. J-1 Visa in the past 2 years (24 months at the time of submission deadline).\n12) Be able to fully participate in every activity organized by Fulbright Thailand\, including the Preliminary\nOrientation and Pre-departure Orientation Program\, held in January and June\, respectively.\n13) Those who work for the U.S. Embassy and related agencies\, please consult Fulbright Thailand before\napplying. \n  \nAPPLICATION:\nApplicants must complete and submit an online application within a deadline with the following required\ndocuments in the English language and PDF format:\n1. DESCRIPTION:The Thailand – United States Educational Foundation (Fulbright Thailand) announces its annual competition\nfor the Fulbright awards under the Thai Visiting Scholar Program (TVS). The program offers up to three (3)\ngrants to senior Thai national scholars in Thai universities/research institutions to lecture\, pursue research or\nundertake special academic-related projects in the United States during the 2025 academic year for a period of\n3 – 6 months. The grant period must not start before September 1\, 2025\, and no later than mid-February 2026.\nThe award includes 1) round-trip international air tickets\, 2) monthly stipends\, 3) professional allowance\, 4)\nsettling-in allowance\, 5) excess baggage reimbursement\, and 6) in-kind benefits such as ASPE health insurance\,\nJ-1 visa fee exemption\, and other enrichment activities in Thailand and the U.S. An additional allowance is given\nfor qualifying dependents who accompany the scholar for at least 80 percent of the grant period. Eligible\ndependents include the legal spouse and children age under 21 years old. \nELIGIBILITY:\nAt the time of application\, an applicant must:\n1. Be a Thai citizen in good health\, age not exceeding 58 at the time of application deadline; (individuals\nholding U.S. immigrant visas or permanent U.S. resident cards (green cards) or dual citizenships (Thai\nand U.S.) are not eligible to apply);\n2. Be physically present in Thailand at the time of the interview;\n3. Have a doctorate degree in the academic background with strong knowledge of English;\n4. Be currently working as a lecturer or researcher in any accredited Thai university/research institution\nwith at least 10 years (120 months at the time of submission deadline) of lecturing/research experience at\nthe university/research institution level (excluding the period of study);\n5. Obtain an official letter of invitation from a U.S. host institution;\n6. Be able to take leave from their home institution or professional organization;\n7. Preferably not have extensive experience in the United States during the previous 3 years and not obtained\na U.S. J-1 Visa in the past 2 years (24 months at the submission deadline).\n8. Be able to fully participate in every activity organized by Fulbright Thailand\, including the Preliminary\nOrientation and Pre-departure Orientation Program\, which will be held in January and June 2025\,\nrespectively;\n9. Be willing and able to serve as a resource person and a cultural ambassador in the United States\, e.g.\, as a\nlecturer\, seminar participant\, consultant\, or in other capacities requested by the host institution or\ncommunity; and;\n10. Be prepared to lecture and participate in academic activities related to the program undertaken upon\nreturn to Thailand.\n11. Candidates may not have held a Fulbright grant for lecturing or research in the U.S. within the past 5 years;\n12.
